Japan has a similar problem to the UK - a rapidly ageing population (over 20% of the population are over 65) and not enough hospital resources to cope. According to a report from the BBC, one hospital has found the solution - bringing doctors out of retirement to help fulfill the need for more medical staff - the oldest doctor working is 83 years old. Could you see this working in the UK? I'm not sure UK doctors could be tempted out of retirement...But a worthy question - would you rather your elderly parents are treated by an 25 year old or a 75 year old?
