In the Friday edition of Woman's Hour this week, Jenni Murray discussed the fact that at the moment, counselling is not generally an option which is offered to those diagnosed with Alzheimer's or other kinds of dementia.
This surprised me - naively, I assumed that in today's climate of "therapy for everything", there would be in place some level of professional counselling for those who have just been given devastating news that would change the rest of their lives and that of their families. Funding, yet again, is the issue of course, but why is the Dementia Strategy pushing memory clinics and early diagnosis, when there is no further funding for early stage drugs or counselling, the two things you would look for having received your early diagnosis?
